All is well with svenax.net again

There we go! Now I have most things configured the way I want it, and all old contents restored that I want to keep. I’m pretty happy with the way the site turned out, and Drupal 6 is nicer to work with than the old version 4 that the previous site was using.

It took a little while to port the Sheet music module to version 6, but nothing too bad. So there! Go enjoy the new and improved site!

Sheet music module missing in action

I still have to code a new sheet music module for my bagpipe tunes. I’ll try to get around doing that this weekend. Shouldn’t be too hard.

Initial set-up in place

OK, that wasn’t too hard. A default Drupal site with most of the same functionality and contents as my old site is now in place. I will probably keep this set-up around, since it is pretty easy to maintain. But I still intend to do a Ruby on Rails site too.

Hobbies

Well, there is only one really, but I do go for that one for real.

Music

I love music, any and all music! (Except for most modern popular genres, which makes me dislike what most people like – bummer.) I usually have a strong opinion on if a piece is good or bad, but this is not connected to genres, it is strictly for individual pieces.

Work

I have worked full time for over 20 years now – god, time really flies! It all started at the university, which you can read about in the Education section.

Microsoft IPG

My first steady job with some relation to my education was with Microsoft International Product Group in Dublin, Ireland. I started working there as a software localiser in the spring of 1990. I then became a technical specialist later the same year. As a technical specialist, I was responsible for handling technical problems mostly in Excel 3, released in 1990, and later in Excel 4, released in 1992.

Education

I have a masters degree in computational linguistics from the university of Gothenburg. My thesis was about implementing a toolkit for performing psycholinguistic tests using personal computers.

I then started pursuing a PhD in linguistics, while at the same time working on the IKON project (Interactive Concretisation of Text), which started as a spin-off from my masters work. IKON aimed to develop multi media tools for helping persons with recognition disabilities, e.g. aphasia, to better understand a written text.

Personal information

Sven Axelsson was born in the Swedish town Uppsala in 1962 to parents Per and Maj Axelsson. He has a sister, Gunilla Bergersson, and a brother, Gunnar Axelsson, both considerably older than himself (15 and 12 years respectively), so in practise he grew up as the only child in the family.

Working on it

I have just – after way too may years – switched to a new web host, with the intention of finally giving my website an overhaul.

As yo can see, this is currently a Drupal site, though much more up-to-date than was my old site. I am still undecided if I want to put any effort into making a Drupal site. One of the main reasons for switching host was to play with Ruby on Rails, and create my site from scratch.

I’ll see how this plays out, it may end up with me having multiple sites and switching between them whenever I feel like it.
